Serena Williams Slams The Critics With This Powerful Response

16 July, 2019 by Taylor Swift

Serena Williams is considered the GOAT of tennis for more than just her 23 Grand Slams. She is also a mother, businesswoman, and activist, and recently has been hit with the criticism of stretching herself too thin after she lost to Simona Halep in the Wimbledon final.

In the press conference after her loss, Williams was asked about a comment made by tennis legend Billie Jean King, who said Serena should “put everything else aside” and just focus on tennis. Her response was legendary.

“The day I stop fighting for equality and for people that look like you and me will be the day I’m in my grave.” This is truly a mic drop moment, especially after receiving numerous other critical questions leading up to this final feedback.

Serena: A Steadfast Advocate

Advocacy is nothing new for Serena. This tennis star has been in the spotlight since her first professional tournament in 1995, when she was just 14 years old. She has been a leader for demanding equality in tennis and the workplace, particularly when it comes to equal pay. Serena also frequently talks about her experiences being a black woman in tennis. She is adamant about the need for racial equality across all aspects of life.

An Inspirational Leader

Which is why it’s no surprise that Serena was calm and steadfast in her response. The idea of putting aside advocacy has not, nor never will, cross her mind. She is an inspiration for insisting to keeping true to who she is, and also using her powerful star status as a platform to speak up for other women around the world.

Spreading The Message Of Serena

While many post-match conferences go unnoticed, Serena’s powerful statement has been shared by numerous accounts of athletes, businesses, and celebrities alike on Instagram and Twitter. ESPNW alone had over 20,000 likes in their share of the comment.

Serena's response to critics saying she should "just focus on tennis" is perfect ?

Not A Waste

Is Billie Jean King correct in saying Serena could do better in tennis if she just focused all of her energy into the sport, rather than all of her interests? Maybe, but at least Serena knows she is not wasting her life and is proud of her decision to help the greater good.

A Spot On Parody of “Guys With ‘Entrepreneur’ In Their Bio”

11 July, 2019 by Taylor Swift

With digital networking on the rise, it’s now more important than ever to have a profile that both captures people’s attention and sells your best talents. However, some key phrases in certain bios have a way of screaming “scam,” such as with the title entrepreneur. While many true entrepreneurs have incredible success stories, such as Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey, there is a fine line between an intrepid self-starter and a shameless failure-to-launch.

The latter is typically a former frat guy who still lives for the party scene as means of “networking.” Comedian Trevor Wallace perfectly and depicts this stereotype in his latest video, “Guys with ‘Entrepreneur’ in their bio.”

A Popular All-To-Accurate Parody

Since its release on July 9th, the video has gotten over 1 million views thanks to its hilarious portrayal of the still-shamelessly-lives-at-home-with-his-parents fake entrepreneur with no real job prospects in sight. The shortened tweet version also got thousands of likes, retweets, replies with people swearing by the video’s accuracy.

stop this is too good !!!! every guy in my town who thought they outsmarted the system with “the secret” ?

You Don’t Need To Be Able To Spell To Be An Entrepreneur

One of the funniest themes that continually pops up in the video is the inability to spell his own career of entrepreneur. But that’s okay, because he can at least spell the name of his car, TESLA. Wait, just kidding, he can’t. Thank goodness for Siri!

Sign of TESLA car.

Influencers… The Latest Entrepreneur?

So spelling might not be this type of entrepreneurs’ strong point, but at least they are great at getting investors. Family investors, that is. The cycle of wealthy individuals having their parents support them to success is nothing new. It just sometimes takes new forms, as seen in this video when he goes “live” as if he were an influencer on Instagram. In reality, his words lacked any sense or true meaning. However, it does get us thinking about the thousands of people who claim to be influencers on Instagram. Could one consider this as the latest version of ‘entrepreneur’ in one’s bio?

“Psychopathic” Ice Cream Crime Gone Viral

6 July, 2019 by Taylor Swift

There’s nothing better than eating a nice cold ice cream to beat the heat on sizzling summer days. That is, unless that ice cream has already been licked by a stranger!

A video this week went viral of a girl in a Texas grocery store going to the frozen section and opening a container of Blue Bell ice cream– only to lick it and then put it right back onto the shelf!

Horror For Blue Bell

The Blue Bell company, was reasonably ticked and decided to join forces with the local police. In a statement to WAFB, Blue Bell firmly said “This type of incident will not be tolerated.”

The company was additionally under fire for not protecting their lickable desserts with a seal, but the company assured it would be obvious if any of their products were hampered with.

Widespread Disgust

The video got thousands of retweets and responses on Twitter, with most people as thoroughly disgusted as we are. One user even went so far as to post the video with the comment, “What kinda psychopathic behavior is this?!” We couldn’t agree more.

The Police Double Down On The Ice Cream Crime

As stated previously, the police and local law enforcement officials got involved in trying to find the culprit of the ice cream crime. In Texas, this crime could have received a sentencing of up to 20 years and $10,000 in charges.

Close up of $100 dollar bills- to pay a hefty ice cream fine.

The police found themselves a difficult time finding the ice cream licker, and originally were catfished into thinking it was the wrong person. Yep, turns out catfishing happens even outside the dating world! However, the police finally found the culprit, but won’t press charges because she is a minor.

Preventing Further Frozen Food Attacks

While the strength and durability of the protective seal on Blue Bonnet’s ice cream leaves us dubious, a Wal Mart store in Corpus Christi took the matter into their own hands, guarding the frozen section with none other than… a water gun. That’s right. The most terrifying threat out there.

The Corpus Christi Walmart isn’t fooling around.

A dog helps owner wake up from a coma

5 July, 2019 by Isabel Okhuijsen

Dog wakes man up

When a person suffers from an illness and falls into a coma, what usually happens is that no one can really do anything to help it. However, this time, it was the man’s dog who helped him wake up. You almost won’t believe your eyes…see it for yourself.

Pneumonia was to blame

The is the story of Andy Szasz, who is 62 years old. He was a civil engineer, who was induced into a coma due to a strong case of pneumonia. Doctors estimated it would take him around two weeks to wake up, but apparently not everyone agreed.

The dog is the hero

Man wakes up from coma

Getting a dog into a hospital is an almost impossible task given hospitals don’t exactly have permissive policies when it comes to visits, especially not when talking about a dog. However, the man’s wife seemed to have won over the nurses, as she managed to sneak their dog into the man’s room.

One of the nurse’s claims the dog’s presence was what woke the patient up. It being in there improved everyone’s mood.

The dog’s energy seemed to obtain positive results, as he, thanks to the interaction with his dog, woke up from the come in just a couple of days. See it for yourself.

Toy Story 4 Proves Pixar’s Animation Has Improved Dramatically

27 June, 2019 by Taylor Swift

The heart warming story of our beloved Woody and Buzz finally comes to a close with the recent release of Toy Story 4. People of all ages have been able to enjoy this friendship that has blossomed the past 24 years, since the original movie’s release in 1994. But the unlikely relationship between a cowboy and astronaut isn’t the only thing that grew over the years- Pixar’s animation has improved dramatically, as seen in this new video released by Insider.

The Process Behind The Amazing Animation Advancements

Just comparing the fur of the animals in Toy Story and Toy Story 4 are staggering in itself. The dog looks completely flat in the original, whereas each strand of the cat’s fur in the recent release appears to glimmer in the light. However, what is most interesting about the improvement in design is both the research involved and the timing of events that took place in order to master realistic-looking animation.

This video breaks down the learning and creation process behind the 21 feature-length animation movies made by Pixar since 1995, and some of the facts are mind-blowing. As audience members, we take for granted the amount of effort that is put into even just a few seconds worth of some scenes in animation films. However, with statistics like one scene with Hank the octopus taking two years alone to create in Finding Dory– it’s no wonder it took 13 YEARS for the sequel of Finding Nemo to come out!

A Methodical Order To The Movies

Another fascinating detail discussed in the video is the order for making the animation movies. Many movies with few humans at all, like Monsters, Inc. were chosen to be created because they still hadn’t mastered creating realistic-looking humans back in 2001. The greatest improvement has come from Pixar’s research into using light. Now they successfully can make light reflecting in water, on metal, on skin, etc. The changes are obvious when looking at Andy in the first Toy Story movie to now!

Knowing all the work involved will surely make you enjoy the final Toy Story that much more!

Guy Wins AGT Judges Over With “Brilliant” Karaoke Performance

20 June, 2019 by Taylor Swift

For everyone that has ever performed at a karaoke night before, you can probably all relate to the most crucial part of the night; the song choice. Choose a song that’s too slow, and you won’t get the crowd going. Too overplayed on the radio, and they might want to kick you off stage.

But regardless of your actual singing talent, karaoke is all about getting the crowd going- and Andy Rowell did exactly that this past week on America’s Got Talent, getting a standing ovation of approval from all four judges. Yes, including Simon Cowell, who is notorious for HATING karaoke performances.

His winning song choice of the night? “Tequila”.

YEP. THAT “Tequila”, probably one of the easiest – if not easiest – songs to memorize, with it’s one word only lyrics. To give him some credit, he did have to get that timing down!

A Long Time Karaoke Buff

This isn’t the first time this 24 year old Iowa native has gone viral for his rendition of Tequila. Back in September 2018 he uploaded a video of his karaoke performance in a bar, that to date has reached over 4 million views on Youtube and has been the source of many memes.

Pre-Performance Jitters

Before getting the crowd roaring with delight, host Terry Crews talked with Rowell about his background in karaoke and what reactions he hoped to get from the judges.

I’d say the most ironic part of Rowell’s speech was when he said singing at karaoke “made him feel alive,” and yet he looked like he was converting into a zombie right before our eyes during (and after) his performance when all color drained from his face.

The Simon Factor

When it came to his biggest challenge of winning Simon Cowell over, Rowell hoped that his “voice would at least somehow change [Cowell’s] perspective.” Considering we heard Rowell’s voice in the karaoke performance for approximately three seconds total (if that), it was another factor that successfully got Cowell’s approval.

“It was so stupid, I loved it.”

via GIPHY

So… not quite the accolade one wants to hear after their performance, but hey it got him through to the next round!

Can He Follow Up That “Brilliant” Performance?

Rowell truly brought the house down with his karaoke singing, with the whole audience and judge panel applauding the finale. Julianne Hough even claimed it to be “brilliant” as she voted to pass Rowell on to the next round. When it comes to the next stage of AGT, Howie Mandel got us wondering… how will Rowell’s “exuberance and excitement” shine through in his next karaoke song pick?
