How Did Lil Nas X Become A Viral Sensation?

4 September, 2019 by Taylor Swift

You have most likely heard the song “Old Town Road” (or the remix) at least once this past year. That’s because this country-trap beat by Lil Nas X shattered records by becoming the first song to top the Billboard Charts for 17 consecutive weeks. The song’s catchy beat and family friendly lyrics made it loved by people of all ages around the world. The song even sparked a dance challenge and many memes on social media. Ironically enough, Lil Nas X was a college dropout living on his sister’s couch less than a year ago. How did this 20 year old become an overnight viral sensation?

Lil Nas X’s Humble Beginnings

Originally from Atlanta, Lil Nas X (whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill) spent most of his time studying memes and social media during high school. He created several accounts on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok with the hopes of becoming a paid Influencer. When those plans didn’t pan out, Lil Nas X went on to college, only to drop out a year later to pursue music. His parents did not support his decision at first, but his rampant success proved them otherwise.

Got The Horses In The Back, $30 For A Track

Without money to professionally produce his own music, Lil Nas X turned to the app BeatStars to find some beats. He purchased the music that is the background of Old Town Road for only $30 from a Dutch teen producer named YoungKio. He then recorded his own lyrics about bringing his horses to “Old Town Road” to go with the track. In order to get some exposure for the song, the two paired up by creating various memes to share on social media, really emphasizing the “cowboy” perspective. The song truly peaked in popularity when it was shared on TikTok by Lil Nas X, inspiring the creation of “yee yee juice” and the “yeehaw challenge.”

Only The Beginning…

After the original song grew in popularity, the artist turned to Twitter to try to gain the support of Billy Ray Cyrus. After he caught the famous country singer’s attention, the two paired up to create the remix, which helped the song gain even more popularity. The duo even performed at the BET awards together. The song has since won numerous awards, including song of the year at the MTV Video Music Awards. Given his recent stardom, Lil Nas X has finally been able to jumpstart his career, with a record deal with Columbia records. We are sure to hear more hits from this young artist- can’t nobody tell him nothing!

Travel Influencer Is Called Out For Her Repetitive Photoshopping

31 August, 2019 by Taylor Swift

In today’s age of social media influencers, everyone competes to get the most likes on their photos. With over a billion accounts out there and the competition stiff for followers, some individuals will go to all means to get their ideal photo. This includes photoshopping up to the most minute of details… like clouds in the background, as did the travel influencer @tupisaravia.

Caught In The Photoshopping Act

Tupi Saravia is a travel influencer and blogger from Buenos Aires, Argentina who has gained over 295,000 followers thanks to her dreamy blue and orange hued travel photos. However, some followers recently became suspicious of the picture perfect beauty in her photos. After taking screenshots of several photos for comparison, it was clear that the same cloud formation appeared in many photos.

This travel ‘influencer’ spookily has the same clouds in every photo. ??? pic.twitter.com/uYzXhTiRJp

— Matt Navarra (@MattNavarra) August 28, 2019

The Travel Influencer Confesses

When the photos were brought to the attention of the masses, Tupi Saravia all but shrugged it off. In an interview she admitted that she uses the photo-editing app, Sky Control, to add clouds to her photos. She also said that she has used “an app called Quickshot to help the composition of the photograph when the sky is burned or overexposed.”

Saravia continued to state she was shocked this was such a big deal, for she has always been open about using photoshopping apps. She even shares which apps she uses to her followers who aspire to achieve the same Instagram feed aesthetic.

Making Light Of The “Scandal”

For Saravia and many others, the fact this made headlines was comical. Some even shared tweets about their thoughts, putting a positive and funny spin to her cloud control.

Travel Influencer Gone Too Far?

While most were able to laugh at the situation, some followers were deeply upset to learn of the extreme measures taken for a like-worthy photo. With people being tagged as “influencers,” it does make one question the validity of making people believe the possibility of living in a false reality.

This really bums me out. There’s so many people who want what she has: a fabricated online reality ?

— Mark Ventura ?? (@ItsMarkVentura) August 28, 2019

As much as we might hate to admit it, Instagram and the media has created a photoshop obsession for many individuals. An important lesson to think about next time you feel envy scrolling through various influencers’ feeds!

28 August, 2019 by Taylor Swift

Summer might be coming to an end, which means it is time to take advantage of these last few weeks of sweltering days to hit up the water works. While the pool and beach are both fun in their own way, if you’re looking for some real thrills, this homemade Slip N Slide in Norway is the place to be!

The Largest Slip N Slide in Norway

This homemade slip n slide was made by brothers Christian and Svein Torp in the backyard in Oslo, Norway. The original design was only a straight slide from the roof of their house into their backyard pool. These brothers are known for being into action sports like snowboarding and water skiing, and decided to take their talents to the creation of this splash-filled design.

A Megaloop Party

Recently for a big birthday celebration of Svein, the brothers decided it was time to amp up their design, this time with a megaloop. For onlookers, the thought going down the slide and flipping without injury seems borderline impossible. However, we can thank physics for the safe riding on this fun filled spectacle.

First Person Views Of The Slip N Slide

While only invitees were able to soak up the fun on this backyard attraction, viewers around the world could feel like they were on the ride with videos shared by riders. This first person account shared on Instagram shows slow-motion footage just as he gets to the megaloop.

“Nothing like a salad with a side of live frog”

22 August, 2019 by Isabel Okhuijsen

Washing the lettuce when preparing a salad is a must nowadays with all of the pesticides food has. Because of the hassle of having to wash it, cut it and prepare the salad, a lot of people are increasingly opting for buying already washed lettuce. They are packed salads that you can open and immediately eat. It’s much easier and quicker. However, if we decided to buy an already packed salad, the following could happen to us.

Wisconsin, the United States

It took place in Wisconsin, the United States. The young Karlie Allen got the surprise of a lifetime as she got back from the grocery store. It turns out, that inside one of the packed salads she had bought, awaited nothing more and nothing less than a frog. Although it’s not an unusual animal, it is in fact, not very pleasant to find inside your food.

Allen quickly grabbed the phone and started filming the amphibian that was trying to escape out of the bag. It seemed as though the frog had been there for at least a couple of days, as it was unable to make his way out because of the plastic sealing.

bon appetit! nothin like salad with a side of live frog ? @SimpleTruth4U pic.twitter.com/KG9bPjotZ9

— Karlie Allen (@kkarliea) 14 de agosto de 2019

Divided opinions

It didn’t take long before the video reached social media where it got thousands of visits and reactions in a short period of time. Thoughts were divided. Some claimed they wouldn’t hesitate in throwing the bag out, and other said it wasn’t all that bad.

In the end, it’s an organic and fresh salad, which is definitely the case, according to some users. Some suggested she should let the frog go and simply wash the lettuce as if nothing had happened. What do you think?

Jimmy Fallon and Kate Upton Boogie Back To The 80s

20 August, 2019 by Taylor Swift

Jimmy Fallon is known for providing us plenty of belly laughs with his crazy videos with guest stars on The Tonight Show. Never one to back down a challenge, he and his recent guest Kate Upton decided to take on old 80s dance moves. The duo made sure to dress the part as they copied dances from aerobic videos in this hilarious video.

80s Fitspiration

In the age of Social Media, many individuals have earned a blue check next to their name with fitness instagram accounts. Millions of people follow fitness trainers like Kayla Itsines and Jeanette Jenkins to attempt their heart-pumping workout routines. While it might seem a modern concept, getting in a sweat session to workout videos was a fad that took off in the 80s. Jazzercise and other dance workouts by 80s legends such as Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons were sure to get their audience moving in a colorful, crazy way. What better way to commemorate these memorable exercises than through a joint aerobic dance challenge?

A Color Coordinated Duo

Jimmy Fallon and Kate Upton in bright 80s clothing.

If it’s one thing that stands out about fashion from the 80s, its the bright colors. Jimmy Fallon and Kate Upton knew they couldn’t properly recreate an 80s aerobic dance challenge without an outfit that suited. The two were decked out in headbands, leotards, scrunchies, and leggings of all different colors and prints that made viewers take an instant trip back in time.

A Modern Day Twist

Jimmy performing an 80s move that looks like a modern day dab.

The dance moves that the two performed were beyond ridiculous. It’s no wonder these didn’t make it to the 21st century! However, there were some similarities to some of the dance fads of today. Upton at one point commented, “That’s kind of like the Eighties version of the dab.” After their individual routines, the two then joined forces to attempt some partner routines. In reality there should have been a “don’t try this at home” warning, for some moves just looked outright dangerous! This challenge is definitely not for those who are lacking in the coordination department.

80s Flashdance

Naturally, Fallon and Upton’s routine could not truly be complete without attempting the famous “Flashdance” scene, even using real water. Upton, being a professional model, knew exactly how to pose her body for the scene. Whereas Jimmy... well he tried.

Naughty Penguins Of New Zealand Are The Kings Of Mischief

13 August, 2019 by Taylor Swift

If you thought cats were the most comical and mischievous of creatures, think again. The penguins at the National Aquarium of New Zealand just might take the cake for their impish acts. After the workers had had enough of the penguins misbehaving, they decided to start a monthly tradition of publicly awarding the “naughty” and “nice” penguins of the month. The latest winners became the source of hilarious tweets and memes of people deciding to “cancel Mr. Mac.”

Shocking, we know! Stealing fish from his blind girlfriend?! Not cool Mr. Mac, not cool.

Popularizing The Penguin’s Bad Behavior

The tweet shared by @puppy_eggs criticizing Mr. Mac’s devious exploits gained over 334k likes! However, this is not the first time the penguins have become famous for their devilish acts. Back in June 2017, someone shared the first “naughty and nice” penguins which became shared throughout the internet. However, unbeknownst to most, this wasn’t a one time award. The nicest and naughtiest penguins are actually awarded every month at the aquarium!

So. Y'all remember this picture, right? It's adorable, charing and all over the shop since it first appeared in June last year. Well, there's more. Thing is, the National Aquarium of New Zealand has done it, as advertised, EVERY MONTH since then and, folks, it's a ride. Strap in. pic.twitter.com/FgQ7NBpGUB

The Funniest Crimes Of The Penguins

Each month the Aquarium shares the awards for the naughtiest and nicest penguins on the Aquarium’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. The following are some of our favorite “crimes” over the past few years.

To be honest, we all are guilty of being a Mo on the weekends.

Turns out there are even Casanovas in the Animal Kingdom! Whereas Dora, we totally feel you.

We are laughing just at the thought of Dave pecking at this poor visitor. Should have shaved for the occasion!

A Happy (Feet) Ending

Although this might change your thoughts on penguins (wait, they’re not like the singing and dancing creatures from “Happy Feet”?), it ultimately goes to show animals have just as much of a personality as humans do. We can only be thankful that our own employers don’t have the same “naughty” tradition!
